Vom Anfang an setzte Hilde Lotz-Bauer das Instrument der Fotografie zu kunsthistorischen Zwecken bewusst ein, indem sie präzise Detailaufnahmen, unbekannte Standpunkte und auch künstlerische Mittel zur Dokumentation von Kunstwerken verwendete. The collection of about 750 photographs (mainly motive in Florence and Roma) can be viewed in the Digital Photo Library on the Internet. She knowingly employed the instrument of photography for art-historical purposes, using detailed photographs, unknown angles and artistic techniques to document works of art.
