In a prospective study from May 2012 to June 2013 on 206 patients with lumbar facet joint syndrome at the Department of Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery, University Medicine Greifswald Germany, the symptom relief after inpatient complex therapy with image intensified facet-joint infiltrations was measured by using standardized questionnaires (in the following: Functional questionnaire Hannover - Back, Oswestry Disability Index, Numerical Rating Scale for Leg and Back Pain, Center for Epidemiological Studies - Depression Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale - German Version, Life Satisfaction Module Questionnaire, SF-12 Health Survey) at three points of investigation: before infiltration (T1), after completion of infiltration - "short term" (T2) and four to six weeks after infiltration - "medium term" (T3). The patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of a spinal deformity (like degenerative [adult] scoliosis / spondylolisthesis) and the results were compared. At the time of examination, 115 patients had no spinal deformity whereas 91 patients had a spinal deformity. For statistical analyses, the Kruskal-Wallis test was used to test for significant differences between the two groups at the three points of investigation. Possible differences within each group at the investigation points were assessed by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Regarding the main results, the subjective pain sensation (NAS back, NAS leg) decreases significantly in the ...
