“Cultures in Times of Transition” explores how the transformations of the 1980s and 1990s affected everyday life for citizens on both sides of the Iron Curtain; how ideas of “the other” circulated before and after the fall of the wall; and what a future utopia looked like for citizens of the East. These contributions range from the history of agricultural change, urban studies, linguistics, and legal history. They mirror the broadness of questions concerning the transition, but also hint at the heterochronous nature of those transformations.
Ziel des Konferenzbandes „Cultures in Times of Transition“ ist es, in interdisziplinärer Weise zu zeigen, wie die Transformationsprozesse der 1980er und 1990er Jahre das Alltagsleben der Menschen auf beiden Seiten des Eisernen Vorhangs beeinflusst haben, welche Vorstellungen vom „Anderen“ es vor und nach dem Mauerfall gab und welche Gestalt ein künftiges Utopia im Bewusstsein der Menschen im Osten des Kontinents annahm. Inhaltlich umfassen die sieben Beiträge Disziplinen wie Landwirtschaftsgeschichte, Urbanistik, Linguistik und Rechtsgeschichte. Sie stehen für die große Breite der Transformationsforschung und zeigen zugleich den heterochronen Charakter dieser Wandlungsprozesse.
Tom „Kultury w czasach transformacji” jest poświęcony zagadnieniu, jak przeobrażenia z lat osiemdziesiątych i dziewięćdziesiątych wpłynęły na codzienne życie obywateli z obu stron żelaznej kurtyny, jak wizje „Innego” cyrkulowały przed upadkiem muru i po nim oraz jak wyglądała wizja utopii dla obywateli Wschodu. Przyczynki te mieszczą się w spektrum od historii przemian rolnictwa przez studia miejskie, lingwistykę po dzieje prawa. Odzwierciedlają szeroki zakres zagadnień dotyczących transformacji, ale wskazują również na heterochroniczną naturę owych przeobrażeń.
