Anmerkungen:
"The looking-glass is a very free translation of some of the most interesting tales of Mons. Berquin, and other foreign writers. ... May these blossoms of morality, ... ripen to maturity, ..."--Advertisement, p. [3-5]
Commonly attributed to Arnaud Berquin and Richard Johnson. Cf. Weedon, M.J.P. "Richard Johnson and the successors of John Newbery." The Library, 5th series, 4 (1949): 37, 42-43. Apparently, Richard Johnson occasionally used the pseudonym, "the Rev. Mr. Cooper," a name also associated with The blossoms of morality. Welch attributes the text to Richard Johnson
