In such environments, cultural differences among the involved individuals often lead to misinterpretations and misunderstanding, leading to suboptimal solutions or even errors in design and failures in systems. In this paper we intend to draw the attention of systems engineers to the area of anthropology, where the analysis of cultural differences delivers a number of interesting insights that may be of great use for improving communication among systems engineers. We provide indices for measuring cultural differences as well as recommendations how cultural analysis can be integrated in the Systems Engineering process.
