is frequently isolated from the respiratory secretions of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, but identification with biochemical tests is unreliable. We describe fluorescence in situ hybridization assays for the rapid identification of
<jats:italic>Achromobacter xylosoxidans</jats:italic>
and
<jats:italic>Alcaligenes faecalis</jats:italic>
. Both assays showed high sensitivities and high specificities with a collection of 155 nonfermenters from CF patients.
