The global study of the Fiavè peat was initiated in 1983. The aim of the programme was to discover the archeological remains and to understand the sedimentary evolution of the lacustrin basin. More than 320 soil columns have been sampled on the site. Due to their number and the complexity of the data, a computerized processing was required to reach a spatial vision on both horizontal and stratigrafical levels. The STRATO system was developed, it enables the management of sedimentary descriptions and the production of soil maps and sections necessary for archeological and paleoecological interpretations.
L'étude globale de la tourbière de Fiavè (Trentin, Italie du Nord) a été entreprise en 1983, dans le but de repérer la totalité des vestiges préhistoriques conservés et de comprendre le mode d'évolution sédimentaire du bassin lacustre. Plus de 320 carottages ont été réalisés sur le site, leur nombre et la complexité des données récoltées imposaient un traitement informatisé pour atteindre une vision spatiale à la fois sur un plan horizontal et stratigraphique. Le système STRATO élaboré dans cette optique, permet la gestion des descriptions sédimentaires et la production des plans et coupes de terrain nécessaires aux interprétations archéologiques et paléoécologiques.
