Summary : French adaptation and validation of the Boredom Proneness Scale (BP). This research presents a validation of an adaptation in French of the Boredom Proneness Scale (BP) intitled «Echelle de disposition à l'ennui» (EDE). Three studies were conducted to evaluate psychometric properties, construct validity and structural validity. A first study with student participants demonstrated acceptable fidelity (test-retest reliability, internal consistency...) and validity indices. However a confirmatory factor analysis did not support the unidimensional structure ofthe Boredom Proneness Scale. The second study with a sample of drug addicts assessed the validity of the scale using the « Known-Groups» method. Results supported the construct validity of the scale. A third study examined elderly persons. Results of this study point to the reliability and validity of the French version of the Boredom Proneness Scale. Furthermore, a bidimensionality of the boredom construct was found through an exploratory factor analysis. Key words : boredom, Boredom Proneness, French adaptation, validation.
Résumé Cette recherche présente la validation d'une adaptation française du Bore-dont Proneness Scale (BP) que l'on a intitulé « Échelle de Disposition à l'Ennui» (EDE). Les propriétés métrologiques, la validité de construit ainsi que la validité de structure de l'EDE furent évaluées dans le cadre de 3 études. Impli- quant des étudiants, la première a révêlé des indices de fidélité (cohérence interne, stabilité temporelle...) et de validité acceptables. La structure unidi-mensionnelle de l'échelle fut par contre infirmée par une analyse factorielle confirmatoire. Les résultats de la seconde étude obtenus auprès de patients toxicomanes, empruntant ainsi la méthode des «groupes connus», soutiennent la validité de construit de l'EDE. Les résultats de la dernière étude, impliquant des personnes âgées, ont plaidé aussi en faveur de la fidélité et la validité de l'EDE. Enfin, les résultats d'une analyse factorielle exploratoire ont conclu à la bidimensionnalité du construit. Mots-clés: ennui, Echelle de Disposition à l'Ennui, adaptation française, validation.
