A abordagem do tema da paisagem na contemporaneidade e na era digital constitui hoje um desafio considerável do qual decorre, com uma orientação essencialmente artística, a presente investigação. Esta análise, que à partida toma por referência a dimensão pictórica da paisagem, encara-a como um produto cultural em que a sua aparência natural é, em grande medida, uma construção artificial que evidencia uma virtualidade latente. É intenção fornecer um contributo que evoque paisagens virtuais, ou territórios imaginários e ficcionais, e também demonstrar de que forma as tecnologias digitais podem contribuir para alargar e enriquecer a nossa relação com o ambiente e favorecer a revitalização da arte da paisagem. Toda a reflexão desenvolvida tem como suporte um escrutínio da história da arte da paisagem com ênfase na pintura evidenciando aspectos percursores da estética digital. Se a presente investigação requer uma preponderância teórica, ela é também potenciada pela prática artística em diálogo com a pesquisa, num processo que não recorre apenas ao digital e às imagens de síntese 3D mas também à sua combinação com práticas artísticas tradicionais, tais como a pintura, a fotografia ou o desenho. Revelar, Mediar, Ficcionar e Fabricar a paisagem, são deste modo os eixos da investigação que vão solicitar uma recontextualização da paisagem na era digital e reorientar as suas definições mais correntes, que a entendem como um ponto de vista sobre uma amplitude terrestre. Na análise desenvolvida, ambas as noções, ficção e virtualidade, são por sua vez articuladas, suscitando uma revisão da problemática da representação, o que justifica a convocação de diferentes linhas filosóficas contemporâneas (filosofia analítica, estética pós-estruturalista ou o novo realismo) para além da estética digital. Tudo converge, em última análise, para uma ideia de fabricação da paisagem, com a intenção de recriar uma base para o homem através dos meios digitais e dos meios físicos, de forma a visualizar a paisagem como um caminho aberto à configuração de futuros possíveis e desejáveis.The proposition of the landscape theme in contemporaneity and in the digital age, is today a major challenge from which arises with an essentially artistic orientation the present investigation. This analysis which initially takes for reference the pictorial dimension of landscape, takes it as a cultural product in which its natural appearance is largely an artificial construct that reflects a latent virtuality. It is intended to provide a contribution that evokes virtual landscapes or imaginary and fictional territories, and also show how digital technologies can contribute to extend and enrich our relationship with the environment and promote the revitalization of the art of landscape. All developed reflection is supported by a scrutiny of the history of the landscape art with an emphasis on painting showing precursor aspects of digital aesthetics. If the present investigation requires a theoretical preponderance, it is also enhanced by the artistic practice in dialogue with the research, in a process that does not use only the digital and 3D image synthesis but also its combination with traditional artistic practices, such as painting, photography or drawing. Reveal, Mediate, Fiction and Manufacture the landscape, are thus the axes of the investigation that will demand a landscape recontextualization in the digital age and guide its most current definitions, that understand it as a viewpoint on a ground range. On the analysis, both notions, fiction and virtuality are in turn articulated, prompting a review of the representation issue, justifying the convening of different contemporary philosophical lines (analytic philosophy, post-structuralist aesthetics or the new realism) apart from digital aesthetics. The whole converges ultimately to an idea of landscape manufacture with the intention of recreating a basis for man through digital and physical means, in order to view the landscape as an open path to the configuration of possible and desirable futures
